What We Believe

These foundational Christian beliefs are agreed upon by the DIRECTORS, Team members and teachers at Dayton Women in the Word. We do not require that anyone outside of leadership adhere to these specific beliefs.

We believe that man was created originally in the image of God, and then fell into sin through Satan’s temptation. Through Adam, all mankind has fallen into sin. We have separated ourselves from God and deserve the rightful penalty of death.
- Genesis 1:27, 9:6; Psalms 51:5, 58:3; Romans 2:2-5, 3:23, 5:12; Ephesians 2:1, 8-9

We believe that salvation from our rightful punishment of death comes only by a personal belief that Christ took our sins upon himself at the cross and paid our debt to God with his perfect life and substitutionary death.
- John 3:16; Acts 4:12, 13:38-39, 16:31; Romans 4:4-5, 5:1; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Ephesians 1:4-5, 2:8-9

We believe the Holy Spirit dwells within each believer who confesses Jesus as Lord. We believe the Holy Spirit is responsible for our ongoing sanctification and understanding of God’s truths revealed in Scripture.
- John 14:16-17, 16:7-13; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 1:13

We believe that we are called to be in the world, but not of the world. We have been commissioned by God to know and obey His Word and make disciples of all nations.
- John 17:15-19; Acts 1:8; Romans 12:1-2;
1 Corinthians 3:12-17; 1 Peter 1:15-16

We believe the 66 books of the Bible are the inspired, inerrant Word of God and the supreme authority on all things about which it speaks.
- 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21

We believe in one triune God — Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He is the creator and ruler of the world — perfect, immortal and eternal.
- Genesis 1:1, 26-27, 3:22; Psalms 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Peter 1:2, 11

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God the Father, fully God and fully man, born of a virgin.
- Isaiah 9:6; Matthew 1:22-23; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Acts 1:9-11; Romans 1:3-4; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; 1 Timothy 6:14, 15; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 4:14-15

We believe that the sinless life and death of Christ made atonement for all who believe, and that those believers will receive eternal life.
- John 3:16; Acts 16:31; Romans 5:1-2;
1 Corinthians 15:1-4

We believe in Jesus Christ’s bodily resurrection and ascension, which assures a future resurrection for all believers.
- Romans 6:4-5

We believe in the visible and bodily return of Christ to judge the world and reign as King of Kings.
- Revelation 22:12-14

We believe the church is the body of Christ, and Jesus is the head. We believe individual Christians should come under the authority of a local church. We believe in the ordinances of the Lord’s Supper and Baptism by water, and that they should be observed in the context of the local church.
- Matthew 28:19; Luke 22:14-23; Colossians 1:18
